Opportunity Passport®

Opportunity Passport® supports the transition to adulthood through savings, support, and financial education.

Opportunity Passport® is a financial literacy and matched savings program for young people who spent at least one day in foster care after their 14th birthday. Through financial education, matched savings, and asset-building opportunities, the program helps participants build financial capability and invest in goals that support long-term stability and success. Opportunity Passport® is currently supporting 140 enrolled participants.

As an Annie E. Casey Foundation Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative site, A Place 4 Me is part of a national network working to improve outcomes for young people with foster care experience. Through Opportunity Passport®, we are able to offer a model recognized by Jim Casey that combines financial capability, matched savings, and asset-building opportunities to support a stronger transition to adulthood.

Financial Literacy

Financial literacy classes are the foundation of Opportunity Passport® and help young people build knowledge about banking, credit, budgeting, and saving.

Banking Support

Participants receive support opening a bank account in their own name, creating a stronger sense of financial independence, safety, and control.

Matched Savings

Participants set savings goals, and A Place 4 Me matches their savings up to $1,000 per year to help purchase important assets such as a rent or reduce debt.

"Opportunity Passport has been a part of my entire journey throughout and after I graduated college. A Place 4 Me helped me get my first car years ago when I first got into college and they helped me with housing expenses once I graduated college and was trying to figure out life post-graduation in a pandemic."

Why It Matters

Building a strong financial foundation is an important part of the transition to adulthood. Opportunity Passport® gives young people the tools, knowledge, and resources to:

  • build credit

  • save for the future

  • make informed financial decisions

  • invest in goals that support long-term stability

Just as importantly, it helps young people build confidence in their ability to manage money and take greater control of their financial future.
